GTalkabout on phpBB

  Introduction

"GTalkabout on phpBB" is a type of client edtion of GTalkabout. it allows the user to discuss the source code easily and openly on phpBB forums (hence it focuses on open source code); phpBB is a type of 'bulletin board' (BBS Board) style Internet forum, free to use and written in php.

This edition focuses on open source projects involving such sites as GoogleCode, SourceForge, Github, as well as Subversion repositories, giving developers and users access to tools of convenience for their Internet-intensive projects.

The program is not bound to a particular BBS website, meaning that any BBS established by phpBB can support our software. In contrast to a browser, posting through "GTalkabout on phpBB" allows the user to easily and conveniently bind into their post the associated source code location as well as any source code patches, including patches associated with multiple different open source projects, as an attachment.

This edition of GTalkabout is free for a given forum's members and visitors. If you have a website and wish to set up a forum using "GTalkabout on phpBB" as the client, then the 'Lite Client Edition' and the 'Standard Client Edition' are available for you to do so. Both of them are free to use (see following), you can freely release software to an unlimited number of users or visitors to your BBS, who can use this client to freely access the BBS.

The main difference between the two editions is:

The 'Lite' edition can only send and receive posts through the online BBS, whereas the 'Standard' edition can also save posts in a local database, thus reducing the need actually use the website online, and gives convenient offline access to BBS resources.

Posts using the 'Lite' edition will only add the source code location, any patches, and relevant material associated with other projects, whereas the 'Standard' edition can automatically generate a screenshot of the relevant source code and some relevant key words from the source code in the attachment, thus making posts easier to read and search for.

The Edition page on our website contains further information.

If you want to promote and develop your open source project, "GTalkabout on phpBB" can be an effective tool to facilitate cooperation between users, giving them a wider range of collaborative techniques.
